Main purpose of job:
This role seeks to support and increase Korean investment into the UK, growing the economies of the two nations.
You will take lead of the Financial Services [FS] sector for the British Embassy’s Investment Team. This exciting and challenging role will require you to:
- Develop our relationship with key FS companies (including sovereign wealth funds, banks, pension funds, etc).
- Strengthen and convert our pipeline of investment projects.
- Organise and deliver promotional events and activity.
- Support Ministerial and VIP visits.
- Provide UK teams with intelligence on the Korean FS sector.
- Deliver against stretching targets to ensure the UK continues to attract high levels of Foreign Direct Investment [FDI] and Capital Investment [CI] from Korea.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
Pipeline Development and Conversion:
- Develop and deliver compelling pitches to sell the UK offer to Korean FS companies, matching UK investment opportunities with the interests of Korean FS companies.
- Identify and implement appropriate methods for improving perceptions of the UK and generating new leads among Korean companies. These could include the use of social media, seminar events, trade fairs, UK sector specialist visits, Ministerial roundtables and cooperative projects with multipliers.
- Provide tailored support to companies seeking expansion into the UK
- Engage regularly with delivery partners in the UK and Korea to jointly identify and manage projects and overcome obstacles to investment.
- Work with a range of stakeholders to develop the Embassy’s network – and work X-Embassy to develop your own knowledge and experience.
Relationship Managment:
- Provide systematic account management to key FS Korean companies.
- Contribute to effective prioritisation of engagement – setting out which companies to see when and how often.
- Capture key information and contribute to Ministerial updates
- Consider new and innovative ways of maintaining close and productive client relationships.
Events and Activity:
- Plan and oversee the organisation of promotional events In Korea
- Work with experts in London to facilitate UK-based activity.
- Support and contribute to Ministerial and VIP activity.
Providing intelligence:
- Draw from media and research outlets, combined with engagement with experts and policy leads, to track the activities and interests of relevant companies.
- Ensure regular updates are captured via our internal systems (“DataHub”), inputting notes from meetings and investment developments.
- Contribute to Ministerial reporting.
Corporate:
- Contribute to wider embassy objectives and events.
- Collaborate with other teams and develop your understanding of how and Embassy functions.

Language requirements:
- Language: English and Korean
- Level of language required: Native fluency in Korean required, professional proficiency in English (written and spoken)
Desirable:
- 5 years' experience in a relevant industry.
- Previous experience of working in an Embassy or within the office of a major international organisation.

Normal working hours are Monday to Friday, 09:30 –17:45 (17:30 on Fridays). However, occasional evening and weekend working may be required, for which time off in lieu is given. The British Embassy encourages flexible working and various flexible working arrangements are possible with line manager agreement, including working from home one day a week.
